Visit The Sukuma Museum

Visit the Sukuma Museum
browse (1 / 4)

Tanzania on the east coast of Africa is renowned for its vivid beauty, famous wildlife parks and of course the iconic tourist destinations of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Zanzibar Archipelago. Every year scores of tourists arrive on these shores eager to sample the tremendous array of activities this wonderful country has to offer. While it’s aesthetic appeal is widely known and without parallel, Tanzania is also rich in culture, heritage, and history, with visitors often enthralled by the many places they can tour to learn about these marvels.

One such place is the history-laden Sukuma Museum. Sukuma Museum celebrates and promotes the history and heritage of the Sukuma people with a tribute to its traditional and contemporary artifacts and other priceless pieces of history. The Sukuma culture is the largest in Tanzania and has experienced a recent revival of interest into its traditions and practices largely thanks to an initiative by the government to promote its heritage. Furthermore, many of the Sukuma peoples are starting to find a bridge between their traditional values and modern trends, which has been beautifully represented by the Sukuma Museum. The museum is a wonderful interactive and educational experience allowing visitors to trace the origins of this indigenous ethnic group relatively easily.

The institution also hosts workshops, happily training and educating interested parties in the ways of the Sukuma people; an outing to Sukuma Museum has proven to be a wonderful day of fun and excitement for the whole family. All proceeds generated by the museum are used towards the progress and support of the Sukuma culture.
