Zanzibar Dive Adventures is the scuba diving division of Zanzibar Watersports Limited. We visit around fifteen sites on a regular basis and go to the famous Mnemba Atoll Marine Reserve at least every second day.
For qualified divers we have a lot of variety available. From the deep dives at Leven Banks and the Big Wall to the shallow but incredibly beautiful dives at Tumbatu and Wattabomi we really do have something for everyone. The trips are usually two dives and range from around three hours to six, depending on where you are going and what you are doing.
If you haven't dived before and fancy having a go, or you are already qualified and want to get that next level then we offer the full range of PADI courses from Discover Scuba Diving to Open Water Scuba Instructor. If you like photography then we have digital underwater cameras available in the dive centre and run photography courses to help improve your pictures.
COURSES AVAILABLE INCLUDE: Discover Scuba Diving Are you a bit nervous about going into the water for the first time? The PADI Discover Scuba Diving, typically the first step in becoming a diver, could be just the course for you. When you arrive at the dive centre an instructor will start off by taking you for a short theory session to teach you the basics. Nothing to serious, just enough so you understand what is happening underwater and know what to do. This is then followed by a dive in the pool which is usually between twenty and thirty minutes long to learn a few diving techniques that you will be using in the sea.
You'll probably be quite surprised at how easy it all is. All your nerves will disappear and within a few minutes you'll be like a fish, gliding around underwater and enjoying the feeling of weightlessness and freedom that you can only find in diving. This can be a great day out and is suitable for the whole family.
Open Water Diver This entry level certification for new divers will teach you everything you need to know to start off in diving. The course lasts three days and has a combination of theory work, pool sessions and dives in the sea.
The theory covers everything you will need to know about scuba diving from how the equipment works to what you do if you find yourself in a current. Don't worry about sitting in a boring classroom for hours on end during your holiday; we use the latest PADI multimedia to make the theory fun and interesting.
After this you go to the pool and learn all the techniques you are going to use in open water. These will all be shown to you by a professional instructor and we keep class sizes small for better individual attention.
Then comes the really fun bit. Four open water dives, the first two to twelve metres, then down to eighteen will allow you to put what you have learnt into practice. Don't forget these are real dives and you could see anything. Students have come across pods of dolphins, turtles and many other sea creatures on their first few dives so keep your eyes open! Following dive four you will be qualified to eighteen metres and will be able to dive without an instructor. The qualification also lasts for life so you never need to do another course.
Advanced Open Water For Open Water divers who want to push themselves a bit further with an instructor. This is a five dive course which we do over three days and has a lot more flexibility than the open water as you can choose what you want to do. Each of the five dives is based on one of the PADI specialty course and actually counts as part of that course too.
You have to do a deep dive and a navigation dive. For the other three you can choose which ones interest you so if you think of yourself as a budding photographer then choose the Digital Underwater Photography. If you want to know more about marine life choose Naturalist. If you want to improve your buoyancy, do the Peak Performance Buoyancy dive. It's up to you.
We often combine this course with one of the relevant specialties so you leave with two certifications instead of one. For example, do the Digital Underwater Photography dive on the Advanced course and you only have to do one more dive to leave with that specialty certification. Discounts on specialties are available this way.
Emergency First Response A step on the way to becoming a Rescue Diver, this first aid course will teach you all you need to know to help in an accident. The course is not specific to diving and teaches things that everybody really should learn as you never know when you are going to need to help somebody. We are not aiming to turn people into doctors; all we do is instill the confidence in people to try and help somebody that is in trouble.
We start off with accessing accident scenes so you stay safe while helping. Then there is a comprehensive practical session where we teach you all the basic first aid techniques you will need such as CPR, how to deal with bleeding, shock and choking and much more. The course only takes one day but what you learn will be useful for a lifetime.
Rescue Diver The PADI Rescue Diver course is frequently referred to as the most fun course on offer. It lasts three to four days and teaches you many new skills for keeping yourself and your buddy safe underwater.
You'll start off by practicing the self rescue and out-of-air skills you learnt on your Open Water course but will soon move onto new things and will finish with a full scenario where a diver will go missing and you will be entirely responsible for co-ordinating his rescue. You assign tasks to people to help with the rescue, arrange emergency services and then lead the search yourself. When you find the injured diver you will rescue him, get him back to the boat and generally save the day!
Sounds a bit daunting? By the time you get to this scenario your rescue skills will be sharp and you will know exactly what to do. This is the aim, to ensure you are a safe, responsible diver who can be relied on in an emergency.
Dive Master This is the big one. The first professional step on the PADI ladder can be difficult, challenging but is ultimately incredibly rewarding and you really will feel like a professional diver when you are finished.
During the course you will learn instructor level theory knowledge, improve your dive skills to those of a professional and gain experience of guiding dives. You will work along side the dive team so you gain real, first hand experience of working in the dive industry and will realize that, aside from diving, there is much to learn to be the ultimate professional.
Be warned though. You may find that when you have finished this course you go home, sell your house, sell your car, quit your job and go to live on a white sandy beach somewhere that you can dive everyday!
